Digital Thermostat

Can I replace this thermostat with a digital like the Hunter brand in my Roo 19 with a Suburban furnace?

I had considered going with a Coleman Mach digital. Its an exact replacement - so install is super simple, but pretty pricey and not programable.

I have looked at this link. My thermostat has only 2 wires so I am assuming that it would be furnace and ground but I am not sure. The fan is controlled by the furnace.

How do you control the AC temperature?

The controls are on the AC unit mounted on the roof.

what you have is the dreaded "Blast from the Center" a/c, which cannot be controlled by your thermostat. only by the controls on the a/c. this type of a/c is difficult to regulate temperature.

the Hunter one is for RV's with ducted a/c and can control both furnace and a/c from the one thermostat.

this was one big reason we chose our 23SS because it has ducted a/c.

I'm not overly concerned about the AC. We did not have one in our popup and we have only turned ours on once in our Roo since May. If its too hot to sit around the fire I am less likely to camp.

The thermostat in my popup at least had a temperature scale to set the furnace. The Roo's is just warmer or cooler.

I am not an hvac guy but I believe you would just hook up the red to the r terminal and the white to common terminal on any digital stat. You will need to check to see if your furnace is 24 volts (has a transformer) If not you will need to get a stat for millivolt systems.
Hope this helps

An RV furnace isn't going to be 24v.

Archie, This is a super easy mod. My mercury thermostat would stick in the OFF position, not good when its 20 degrees outside. I changed it out with a Hunter brand (only two wires) and that keeps the heater temps within 2 degrees of the selected temp. My TT has the roof mounted a/c unit too, so that isn’t wired to the t-stat controller.

Thanks for the reply. The thermostat is just a switch so it should be easy. I just wanted to confirm that it would mate to my furnace. It will be nice to set a temperature rather that how many lines of heat I want!
