I only light the pilot when wanting to use the oven. We've had this TT for over a year now and I've never used the oven except to store pans.

DW uses the oven regularly. Toasts bread in it, baked cookies, apple pie, dinner, other stuff. Agree it is a pita to light - went thru a full stick lighter in 3 trips.

We cook in our oven, biscuits and sweet things. It's not really a problem to light

Ours has only been lit during the pdi. We use a camp chef stove/oven and cook 99% of everything outside.

I light the pilot when I use the oven. I have not left it on, but see no reason not to while camping. I use the oven quite often and love it. There are ways to keep it from burning.

We use our oven regularly. Pilot light stays lit after I light it, till we leave. Then I turn off the propane at the bottles. (Fridge is electric)

DW left the pilot on a couple of weeks ago, you'll be surprised how much heat comes from the rear vent when it's hot outside.

The reason I ask is the other night my son smelled gas or rather the smell of burning propane. This led me to find the oven was hot inside. Looked at the pilot and burner and there was a partial flame on the burner. It was like 1/4 of the burner closest to the pilot had a flame. I touched the oven knob and it went away and only the pilot was burning. Very weird... I am not sure what caused this but was thinking maybe all the bumping down the road moved the oven knob enough to slightly open the valve. Not really sure though what happened.

The highlighted text above is the best reason of all to START thinking about it. Pulling in to get fuel or propane with a lit pilot light that you don't even think about? Not me. You're risking not just yourselves but anyone else that happens to be there. youtube has many videos of just this thing.

I'm not naive enough to think it doesn't happen, probably more than I'd care to think about. But anyone I can convince that it's a bad idea is a success in my book.

I can understand your concern but the amount of hydro carbons that would have to fill the camper and then somehow seep into the oven is an unimaginable possibility. If the concentration was so high you wouldn't be able to stand it.

I think you're wrong in the amount of fumes that could flash from an open flame. There's even warnings to de-static yourself while filling and you're able to stand it to fuel up, right?

The static discharge to a nozzle or to the container being filled is the hazard. That's why you should always ground a fuel container before filling.
But, my point is the fumes have no way to accumulate inside the oven or camper while fueling your pickup 10+ feet away.
They gotta put Myth Busters back on TV. I don't have the budget for this experiment!
