Dumb question

When your propane tank is empty can you just remove it and replace with a pre filled tank such as you might get from Walmart? Thanks

as long as you have 20lb tanks then yes you can. but its cheaper to get yours refilled.

Yes you can if you wish to go that route.

Thing is if you check it out it will likely be a bit cheaper to have your tank refilled.

You never know what kind of shape the trade will be in or if it is full.

Up where I live....Costco has the best deal going for refilling...almost half what others charge. Savings on propane alone, pretty much pays my membership.

Over the years I have found it best to have two tanks one that is installed and working and the other being refilled or stored and ready for use.

There is some discussion about if a 20lb tank that is swapped really has 20lb in it. Many seem to only put 15 in them... Also I read where Costco only puts in 15.

A full tank should weigh 38lb. 18 for the tank.

If you have rather new tanks, in my opinion it would be dumb to trade them. 20 and 30 lbs. propane tanks have 12 years from the date stamped on the ring until they are either re-certified or disposed of. When you trade often times you get cylinders that a near the end of their life span. It is generally also cheaper to have them refilled.
