Gas regulator?

The propane regulator is making what I can best describe as a pinging noise when gas is flowing (furnace, water heater, stove use) and will not switch tanks when one is empty. I am assuming the regulator is bad and should be changed out. What is a good replacement and where do I find it?

Had the same problem and its not the regulator. The pig tails have a check valve in them. You will have to do a little testing to see which one is bad.

Yes. What redjet said. Just happened to me. Buy a pair of better quality pigtails.

I have the same problem, where is this check valve located in the pig tail? I have the auto which will not switch over. But there is another red valve on the extra tank that is before the tank itself so I know that valve is working, that's the only tank that works. I have to change tanks to to the driver side to get gas. Am I doing something wrong? I have the lever over to the primary tank which is my switch on top is turned to the rear of the trailer.

The checks are in the acme nut portion of the pigtail. You could switch the suspect one to a copper POL pigtail (it Will work) as they do not have checks.

Thank you gasman, I will do that and try it. I don't know how many times I have read the instructions. Even if I make the other tank as the primary it still will not recognize it and nothing will come out.

Don't be such a tightwad, go buy a new switchover valve/regulator.

I had the same problem with one tank also. Went to the local propane gas suplier and bought a new pig tail. All is good.

Due to your post I have another question. The constant "pinging" noise I mentioned occurs no matter which tank I'm drawing propane. Would one bad pigtail still cause the pinging noise after the tanks are switched? Additionally I can feel a tapping in the regulator that's in sync with the pinning noise.
Please forgive the multiple question but I want to fix the problem where I'm not dead in the water, gas appliance wise, 200 miles from home.

Moose, the pig tail you are talking about is the one from the tank to the regulator only?

The pinging on our Sabre 31RETS was only on the driver side tank. I could feel the vibration in the valve on top of the tamk and first thought the tank might have one them trouble casueing valves on the tank. Passenger side tank no pinging. Now not pinging anywhere.
Hope this helps.

The pinging could be the OPD valve, but it would be strange that both are doing it. It could be rapid movement of the regulator that is being transmitted and amplified by the mounting. Disconnect the regulator from the bracket and see if it stops.
Hope this helps

If its of any interest to anybody, I'm just going to replace the pig tails and the regulator. I was hoping for a recommendation on a new regulator but probably couldn't buy a cheaper made regulator or pigtails than the ones on it. It that stops the pinging and it works that's great. If it doesn't, the hell with it; it can ping until the cows come home.
