Leak Test

When I do a leak down test on my 21FBRS it passes the standard 3 minute test easily, but after an hour the pressure drops noticeably. Any thoughts? Is it normal? Is it even possible to find a very slow leak like this?

Not what I consider a leak test IMO. Unless you are running soapy water over the RV while you are searching for leaks, I would consider it a waste of time.

Yes,what PSI are you using for the test? You should be able to Hear the Leak at 60 PSI,I am talking AIR for the test,NO Clean-Up that way! Youroo!! Also I have never heard of a "Standard 3 Min" leak test!

I'm curious what your trying to achieve. There are so many little things that could be leaking so minutely it may be impossible to stop them all.

I'm just asking if it's always even possible to seal up a system tight enough to pass a standard leak down pressure test (hold 8 in WC pressure down stream of the regulator with zero drop over 3 minutes).

You're wanting to test the LP system?

Leak Test

Yes, it should be absolutely possible. I am sorry I misunderstood what you were testing. You should be able to hold 8WCI for no less than 3 minutes. I have not used a gauge when checking our system, I turn on the propane and make sure the regulator goes to a green indicator, then turn off the bottles. Ours has held for weeks. As soon as you turn on something like a stove burner the regulator goes to red. I would feel very uncomfortable if it did not hold pressure. Only once did it leak down, turned out to be a bad o-ring on one of the whips.

You can purchase a flammable gas leak detector at Home Depot, they are very sensitive and will help to pinpoint a small leak at a fitting. Cost is around $25. I carried one in my FF turnout gear used it many times in homes.

Rich5117 Thanks. I thought that auto change valve should hold green for more than a few hours. I'll try that HD gas detector as soon as it warms up a little here in New England! My nose says the leak is probably around the bottle valves, regulator or hoses; all tough to check with soap. Thanks again!

I'm mix detergent and water in a spray bottle and apply it to every connection I just found and repaired a leak just yesterday in the hose between the bottle and the selector. I lost about a third of the bottle before I realized i had leaks. You can find the tiniest of leaks this way.
