No gas flow. Changed regulator still nothing...
I have 2x 30 lbs tanks, one one each side of trailer, connected to auto-switch regulator on passenger side as the "main tank". Nothing but problems since new, never has switched automatically, and regularly blocked up requiring unplugging and waiting 10 minutes then slow open and try again. The first light of the season is always difficult, but could get it done, except this year. No gas flow. I have had it back to the selling dealer twice the first year, and again once a year since new to three different dealers/service. So far no answers, only questions. One Seasoned Tech put an older style regulator (couldn't say what that means) and got it working in the bay but said it wasn't legal so had to put original back on not finding the problem (again). This weekend I changed the regulator myself and it made no difference.
Any thoughts or suggestion before I spend more hours at the service bay that never gets me anywhere?

I hate problems like this. they take longer to diagnose than to fix. did any of these 'technicians' put a manometer on the output port from the regulator and measure the pressure? I believe propane should be at 11" of water column. getting this reading tell you where to look further. if you are getting 11" WC then the problem is somewhere downstream from it (hose, stove, furnace, water heater). if you are not getting the 11"WC then look upstream (regulator, pigtails). you say it is hard to light. i'm assuming this is the stove. do the water heater and furnace ignite and run properly? if so, it might be in the stove itself. again a pressure reading of the propane pressure going into the stove would tell. i'm assuming you have done things like swap the tanks from side to side and change the regulator to switch the primary supply tanks from side to side and none of this helps.
the fact that you have changed regulators and it had no effect would seem to imply that the problem is after it. but this is not guaranteed. I just don't know. have you traced the gas line to look for kinks or collapses? there have been many posts about bugs getting into the gas orifices of both water heaters and furnaces and clogging them up. I haven't read such a post about bugs in stove burners. but I guess anything is possible. one other thought is to see if a local propane distributor will put a manometer on the regulator and take a pressure reading.

I had a check valve fail in the closed position where the far-side propane hose connected to the main side regular. I changed it myself and all is well.

Thanks for input! The original service check did measure pressure and they did do adjustments. I was present for the others, I have to assume they did during other visits, I will make sure any future ones will. Seems to be pointing down line from regulator, some one here at camp ground last night suggested having lines blown out for debris, think I will talk to local shop today

No. All are the same. Stove is just most convenient to light and work around.

I left one tank open all night and woke up to a green indication and was able to light the stove...for 2 seconds and back to red again.

If one appliance is bad will that shut down the whole system? I assume not, I guess that other appliances should work and the regulator would show green.

What all has been changed to try and fix the problem (hoses, pigtails, regulator, cylinders, etc.)? I know you said that you changed the regulator. Is that the first time the regulator has been changed?
Have different cylinders been tried?
Have you manually tried to switch the regulator to the other cylinder?

This is the second time regulator has been changed (first time I did it myself). Tanks have been moved repeatedly from side to side and both have been used on two different bbq. I have not yet changed any hoses but I can't recall if during the hours or service over the years if they have ever been changed. I have never tried different tanks, just moved them back and forth. I do manually switch the regulator back and forth when switching tanks.
Unfortunately we are camping and sounds like the service department wants it for a long time to follow and check all lines and maybe blow out lines for debris, may have to cut trip short or wait until we get home.

I would try replacing the pigtails that go from your tank to the regulator. They have small check valves in them that are notorious for sticking. After the third failure, I just removed mine and replaced with straight through fittings.

I'm with NMWildcat. If the pigtails haven't been changed, I'd do that first. Those check valves can be a pain and they can exhibit the symptoms you are describing.

Some times after my tanks have been filled they will not flow because the inside float must be jamed up. I found taking the tanks and banging them on the ground free's up the float mechanism. Screw in an old pig tail to see if they are flowing. This is just one more thing to test.

I agree with wildcat. I had the same problem with my trailer when it was brand new. I just removed the check valves from the end of the hose fittings and never had a problem again.

I would remove and check the pigtails. I have a friend that was having problems similar to yours and we finally tracked it back to the high pressure hoses between the tank and regulator. The inside of the hose had leaked into another layer of the rubber which would pinch the hose completely closed when pressurized. The solution was to replace the hoses. If you unbolt the hose from the regulator, you can quickly check the hose by cracking the tank valve open briefly. if the HP propane hisses freely, the hose is not stopped - up. I hope this helps you find the problem.

I have gas!![emoji3] thank you all for the ideas and a special shout out to Ron, a fellow camper here who let me check his system to compare (virtually the same FR fifth-wheel) and told me about this FROG!!
Recap: I have replaced both regulators (grey auto switch and red on opposite side), both hoses that connect bottles and the one out from main regulator. I don't recall the last time the auto switch worked, but it is working now!!
Happy camping to all!
