Odor under sink

Yesterday we noticed a foul odor from under the sink area, almost like a dead animal smell. We took everything out and looked everything is clean. We also turned off the propane thinking it could be a leak, the tanks were off the entire night and it still smells under the sink and in the camper. We have a 2015 Salem, that we just purchased to live in while we build. We have been running the heater every night for the past week too. Any suggestions on what this can be, or what we can check? Thanks.

Replace the air admittance valve under the sink.

I had a smell under my sink, my granddaughter smelled it not me. I checked and found that the strainer nut wasn't even screwed on. Never had a leak that we noticed at all.

Your air admittance valve is probably black -- not like the one shown in AVid's link. The black one is junk and has failed. Either replace it with the white one in JVid's link or with a Studor brand. Both the Oatey and Studor will not fail as quickly as the cheap black one.

We checked the air valve and all looked good. I don't think the smell is gray or black, I think it's propane from the furnace. We had one tank that was empty so we switched to the full tank, can having a low or empty tank cause a propane smell? Thank you everyone for your replies.

I would think that if you can smell propane inside, the gas detector should be going off.

I had that problem and it was the air admittance valve. Went to HD and bought two, one to replace the cheap bad one under the kitchen sink and the second one to replace the one under the lavatory in the bathroom. No more odor.
