Patio Propane Heater

I have a patio heater that we sometimes use when camping.. It is the typw that has a round reflector on the top... Until last night it has worked great.. When I lit the pilot light last night, and got it going I notice that the pilot light instaed of being about a 1/2" flame.. was buring all the way to the top of the heater.. (about 4 inches long).. I let it go for a few minutes but no change so I turned on the main heater valve from pilot to low, and not only could you hear excessive gas flow, but the burner flames were much larger than normal.. My first thought is to much pressure.. Do the regulators that attach to the 5 gal propane tanks ever fail?? I don't want to buy another heater BUT if this is not somethiing simple, I won't mess with the gas and do it!

Yes the regulators do go bad and what you posted reads like a good indicator of that, so I would look for another one before replacing the heater.

Buy a new regulator, hopefully you didn't screw up the thermostatic control. Good luck
