Propane Alarm

I replaced my Safe-T-Alert alarm because it was 9 years old. The original had three wires with a shutoff switch. The replacement is a two wire without a shut off switch. I hooked the new one up and the lights all came on. We then hit the road for a 6 month trip. First time we tried to use gas it was a no go. I had to unhook the alarm and wire the wires going to the alarm together to activate the tank safety switch.
I can seem to find a 3 wire switch with a shut off button.
Am I missing something here or do I just keep looking for a different alarm?
