Propane bottle noise
I'm having an issue with one of my propane bottles that hopefully someone can help me with. Whenever the furnace or water heater is on it makes a loud pinging noise. Only one bottle does this. Of course the dealer couldn't duplicate it when I took it on for some other work. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to wait when I picked it up. I recorded a video of the sound.

Mine does the same thing whenever the furnace or water heater is on. I just assumed it was the propane going through the check valves and regulators. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

Wow. When you say makes a noise, you mean it. I've never heard that before. Sounds like a pendulum swinging around in there. Ha. Hope you figure it out. Maybe shut down all flow and restart.
Or switch bottle left and right to see if its the bottle causing it or the connection . Just guesses.

I had a similar problem. Replacing the pigtails solved it.

I might try changing the pigtails. That would be an easy thing to try. It only happens on one bottle.

You could try dcheatwood's suggestion first and switch the chirping pigtail to the other bottle to verify that it is the pigtail. In my case, both sides were making the noise.

It could be the float on the opd valve is broken and is trying to shut off flow during use. The float is for when you fill tank it will not over fill past 90 percent I would take it to a propane dealer and have it checked out to make sure that it can't be over filled because if you get liquid in your pipes it can be dangerous.

In my case, I replaced both tanks first and still had the noise, so I got advice here to replace the pigtails. Replacing a pigtail is much less expensive than replacing the tank. I would do that if a new pigtail doesn't fix it.

Take the propane bottle that makes the noise out and hook up it up to your propane BBQ (if you have one) and see if it still makes the same noise. If not, then most likely it is the pigtail.

I'll call the dealer this morning and tell them I want a new pigtail. I'll let you know if that fixes it.

Had the chirping noise also. Bought new pigtails for the two 30# tanks and installed them yesterday. No more chirping. Be sure to use soapy water to check for leaks at the regulator connection. Easy fix and both pigtails were only $38.

"onetonford" has the best answer IMO. RV dealers are not trained in the use of each element in a propane system---propane dealers are. May I suggest that you take that video to a local propane/LP gas dealer and ask them to view it and listen to it. They may want you to bring the TT in so they can look, listen, and determine exactly what the problem is.

I'm going to swap out the pigtails. I went to a couple of propane stores looking for quick connect fittings for my stove. I'm glad I don't have propane at my house. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing those guys had their hands on anything in my house. They werent the sharpest sticks in the bunch. I guess most people out of the city limits here just use electrcitity since it doesn't get that cold. I have one working bottle so I haven't been in a rush to fix it. Once I do I'll report back.

I think I found the solution. I had a mobile repair guy out to loom at something else. I showed him what my bottle was doing. He loosened the purge screw and then tightend it back up. No more noise. Hopefully it says this way.
I did talk to Brad from RV whole sellers a little while back. Even though I didn't buy my trailer from him he was very helpful and gave me some trouble shooting tips. I'll probably but next my next trailer from them just for them going out of their way to help.

I had a noise something like that last winter. After several bottle changes. the noise was still there. I could not imagine anything that could possibly go wrong with a pigtail that could noises like that. By process of elimination, I concluded that there must be something wrong with the regulator.
I disconnected the pigtail from the regulator, and a significant amount of oil ran out of both the regulator and the pigtail. I reassembled, and the noise was gone. I have come to believe that the noise was propane bubbling through the oil.

The oil is called "heavy ends" It sometimes is the odorant that is injected along with any oils that are picked up in the pipeline. I recommend the next time your tanks are empty have your LP dealer blow them down and flush with solvent. The oil can and will gum up your controls thats why they put drip legs on appliances in sticks and bricks. You could also install a drip leg after your regulator or where the gas goes into the hard pipe or tubing. Just remember for a drip leg to be effective the gas has to change direction so the heavy stuff falls out.
Good Luck
