Propane connection to RV - fire pit

I've been getting conflicting information and hope someone can help me.

We have a propane connection on our RV (Dynamax Isata) and the salesperson said we could hook up a BBQ and fire pit to it. However, the people at Camping World and other places that sell those items tell me the BBQ and fire pit cannot have a regulator because they will be double regulated. I contacted Forest River and they never heard of this.

1. Is it possible to have a fire pit or BBQ with a regulator attached to the propane exterior connection?

2. If not, where can I purchase a fire pit without a regulator?

We do not want to carry around huge propane canisters because we have a small RV. Our Weber BBQ works fine with the small canisters, but there is not a not of fuel in theme for a fire for 2-3 hrs a night.

Thanks!

Well on our vintage apache I ran a splitter before the regulator to a spot to hook up my stove. You would have to find out if the line is regulated or not. I would think it is and that you would have to buy an rv specific bbq that doesn't have a regulator or modify one so that it doesn't have a regulator. I have a bbq that the regulator spins off of. But I have had it so long i don't know what brand

I modified both a Coleman road trip and a outland fire ring to work with the RV low pressure gas system. You need to remove the regulator on the BBQ and fire ring and install quick connects. Camping world or Walmart sell the quick connects, camping world sells extension hose, and the rest of the fittings are available at hardware stores including pipe dope for sealing the joints.

Buy one with the regulator and remove it. For a grill or fire pit that has a knob use this to adapt it. It will work for either.

All you should really need to do is remove the regulator and put a quick connect on it and use yellow pipe tape.

If you want to hook direct to the tanks and not mess with removing a regulator from your stuff get a regular propane tee

or something fancy like this for smaller connections and quick connects:

Your trailer will hook up to it as well and then you have an unregulated quick connect and small hose connection. Just a matter of plumbing from there to connect to your appliance.

You cannot have two regulators so either split before it or remove it from the appliance. I usually remove from the appliance and replace it with the quick connect. Then if you want to use it direct to the tank you can reconnect the regulator with the other quick connect piece. Remember low yellow flames mean not enough pressure so something is wrong.

Best of luck!

Great Fire Pit

I bought this great little fire pit:

Like the others have said, I remove the regulator from the fire pit and installed a 12' hose with a quick connect to hook to the RV. Works great!!

I have a Campchief stove on which I removed regulator. Had local hardware store make a 15 foot hose with quick connect on one end an threaded connector on the other that I leave on stove. Total cost was around $25 if I remember correctly. Hardware store sells gas grills, outdoor heaters etc so had all the tools needed to make a nice hose.

I have a cooker and a firepit. I added this Quick Connect to each of them plus bought a 10 foot M/F QC hose to use for either to go from TT to appliance.

This was the hard to find piece.

You may need another adapter/fitting from the hardware store to screw from the appliance to the QC fitting here.

I use my RVs propane connector to connect to my generator. Had a custom hose made up so it could be away from the rig.

We are out of town and I saw this thread. We headed over to Lowe's and bought this recommended fire pit, removed the hose and then got a hose with the quick connect from a propane place. Thanks to everyone for the posts and recommendations.

Fire pit is awesome!!!
