Propane Gauge

Help!
My 2015 Solera propane gauge has not worked since day one! I don't think the dealer knows how to fix it. It's both at the tank and at the monitor panel. Any help would be great!

Pretty bad if a dealers repair facilities do not know how to fix it. Maybe better send there folks back to school. Have you checked with them? Later RJD

Did you get it resolved. Mine is empty at the panel and no reading at the gauge. I was instructed to check the gauge for any electrical power.

Not yet, I take it in Tuesday and they are going to replace the gauge. Let me know if yours gets resolved. I really don't think the dealer knows how to fix it

More than likely its a bad connection or bad ground between the dial and the panel. The gauge in the tank is just a float and a magnet, they do fail but unlikely. The dial is magnetically coupled to the gauge. The dial is just a hall effect type sensor that varies the voltage sent to it from the panel. Usually there are two wires, one to the panel and a ground , it doesn't matter which is which. So start tracing wires.

The gauge as another poster explained, is acuated by a magnet in the gauge face. As a float lever moves inside your horizontal tank, it sends a command to the dial guage and on through the two wires to your control panel lights. The guage at the tank gives you a back up reading to the panel reading. If your gauge hasn't, or doesn't move with propane use, take a hand held magnet and move the needle around to unstick it, that might be the issue with the dial guage at least.

The dial guage is an easy fix, if that turns out to be the issue. Otherwise, there might be a break in one of the two wires. But if the dial guage never functioned properly, that maybe the issue. Do let us know. Good luck.

One suggestion, call whoever your taking it to, and confirm they already have "on premise" the dial guage. Stealers are notorious for ordering parts after your unit is there, and think nothing of wasting your summer camping window. Just sayin'

Ok, I was reluctant to do this since still under warranty. I snapped off the plastic gauge, moved it with a magnet and it moves freely. The panel reading corresponds with the gauge. The tank level is about 1/3. I used the hot water method to measure it. As soon as I put the gauge back it immediately goes to either full or empty.

prolly best. standard procedure to replace gauge: pull tank, lay it so gauge and fill valve are facing up so floats dont tangle, remove fill, remove gauge, replace gauge, and reverse order. some tanks may offer enough separation..
