Propane smell outside

All our hoses seem to be intact on the front of our shamrock 21ss a very strong propane smell exists outside our trailer near the tank. We were told this is normal, but I can not imagine this is normal or safe. Any guesses what this could be or where and what to check?

Its not normal. Mix up some water and dish soap and brush or pour it on your tank valves, connections and regulator . When you see growing active bubbles there is your leak. If you do not feel comfortable doing this shut off your tank valves and then that it to an LP Gas Dealer or RV dealer for repair.

Agreed, it's not normal or safe. We had a similar situation on our 2014 Rockwood A122 on our first trip. I suspected the regulator, or in that area, after extensive search and checking fitting for tightness. Dealer found a bad casting where the hose from the regulator attached to the pipe running under the camper.

Absolutely no way is a propane smell/ leak "normal" and IMO anyone who says it is should be duct taped to a mad Rhino.

I would tell they guy that told you that it is normal to find the leak himself with a lighter!!! No leaks are normal in in a LP system. Soap water and some time will show you where the leak is. Most are pretty easy to fix.

I had a similar situation on my previous trailer. Tried spraying some leak detector on all the connections and regulator without success so I replaced the regulator and the smell went away.

Good luck.

I just replaced the hose from the tank splitter to the black pipe underside trailer. In this case there was a bulkhead fitting that passed through the front frame of the trailer. The flexible hose with an ASE flare fitting was cracked because the hose had to bend up over the tank tray putting pressure on the fitting. Leak was right at this bulkhead and difficult to detect.

Our son had a brand new tank that had a leak at a weld on the tank itself. The dealer replaced it.
