Question about Propane Tanks - Small leak?

I was working on my camper when I accidentally pushed down on the black hose leading from regulator to propane tank and heard hissing sound, it only lasted the amount of time I was pushing down. If I don't push down on it, I don't hear any gas leaking. Is my hose bad, or is this normal behavior when hose is pushed. Arrow in picture shows where gas comes from.

GAS LEAK...

No, it isn't normal -- there should be no gas leak. Either the hose fitting is not securely screwed in or there's likely a break or flaw in the hose or fitting.

Make yourself a solution of soapy water, coat the hose and regulator area with it and duplicate how you pushed down on it. Look for bubbles. They will help you isolate exactly where you're leak is. Checking for loose connections is good, but can lead to a false sense of security. I tend to be extra cautious with gas and propane.

If that arrow is pointing specifically at the crimped area on purpose, my advise is to replace the hose. Do the soapy water test as described and if it's there, replace it. If it's at the fitting threaded area, turn off the propane tanks, remove the hoses, reapply propane specific teflon tape and screw them back on, tighten and do the soapy water test again.

No Propane leak is safe and you want to make sure you get this corrected.

Great instructions - and spot-on when it comes to "no propane leak is safe".

I had to replace mine 6 months after purchasing. I bought longer lines so they would be so tight.

I would replace it even if it passes the soapy water test. There is movement in that area when towing and what may not leak in a static soapy water test may leak in a real world towing situation. Not worth the risk for a few bucks.

I replaced mine twice in the 1st year, 2nd time with longer and it has lasted about a year so far.

I'd be willing to bet a case of adult beverages that your hose is fine and if you duplicated the situation, you'd find it was leaking at the joint between the crimp and the fitting on the end. That's a two piece fitting and you applied just enough pressure to temporarily open the seal between the two and when you moved, it closed back up. Bet if many went out to their tanks, they could duplicate the exact same thing.

Forget the soapy water test.
If the hose is leaking at the crimp- get a new one.
