Run time with heat

Ok so I have a problem with my propane tank. It's a 110lb permanent mounted tank on a Georgetown Class A. Something is wrong with the shutoff knob. No matter what I do I can not turn off the flow of propane. Spoke to a dealer who wants to replace the rank but said I have to burn off the propane in the tank. I have been running my furnace for two days now and the gauge didn't seem to move. I've got heat set for 70 and it 18 degrees outside. How long do these tanks last ???? And is there a better way to empty it ?

Lot of factors, but you can figure about a third of a gallon per hour of run time.

I don't quite understand... why do you want to turn off the propane flow?
If it's that cold, (18º) you need to be running your furnace to be sure ALL areas of your rig gets adequate heat to keep things from freezing. You will need the propane on for that.

Also, unless you have a leak, (which you didn't mention) simply having each appliance turned off is sufficient. No need to turn off the main valve.

I'm not living in it and it's all winterized. But I noticed I can not turn off the main valve. Ever. Just thought it would be something I would need to have at some point. To be able to turn off the propane tank

Also like I said dealer is going to service the valve or replace the rank but I need to run down the propane before they will work on it.

If I am not mistaken, you can have the propane pumped out by a competent propane dealer. You may be able to transfer/pump your propane to an external tank if need be.

When you say 110lb, you mean gallon??
What model Georgetown do you have?

I've got a 360 XL, has a 24 gallon propane tank. Took me about 2 weeks to use up almost all of it. Normal use, stove, fridge water heater. Most use was furnace, day, (after arriving at campground), and night, (set at about 60 dgrees when sleeping), while we were traveling in the northwest.

If possible, it would save you the cost of running the furnace.

It's not a regular portable style tank. It's mounted semi permanent .

If you are not living in it, you are spending your propane for nothing.

It is not a 100 gallon tank it is a 100 lb tank or around 25 gallons. 100 lb is the largest DOT tank allowed on the road or you must placard the vehicle and have a Haz-Mat endorsement on your driver license.

And there are quite a few good used external 100 pound tanks available.

Well yes and no. The dealer is going to replace the propane tank under warranty. And then fill it for me at no cost. So I am and am not wasting the money

Perhaps not wasting but saving. What you save keeping your existing propane may just cover the cost of the transfer and an additional tank, so you would be ahead of the game.

If you have no use for an additional portable propane tank, then all this would not be to your advantage.
