RVQ Quick Connect

Had a question about the RVQ Quick Connect that came equipped in my TT. I've never used as I've always cooked with charcoal when we've camped. I always assumed it was there to hook up to a propane grill or burner outside but now I'm wondering if it's to connect to an additional propane source, or maybe it will do both...???

just looking for some clarification, guess I should have paid better attention during the walk through...

I use the quick connect for both my grill (that I mounted on my bumper) and a propane fire pit for using when under fire restrictions.

thanks, I was pretty sure that's what is was used for but wanted to be sure before I got too far ahead of myself, now I need to find the right hose so that I have the option of hooking up a propane grill or burner if I want/need to...

RVQ Quick Connect

How far is it from your RBq to the connection? I have an extra 36" hose. I am using 2 10' hoses got off Amazon for about $35 each. You could also get a hose made.

The quick connect fitting is there to supply low pressure propane to a compatible low pressure grill. It is on the low pressure side (regulated) side of your system. Propane tanks are high pressure and your rig's regulator, lowers the pressure for use by the appliances. (furnace, stove, oven, grill, etc.)

DO NOT try to connect an additional propane source (tank) which is high pressure, to the quick connect fitting as you were wondering.
Bad things will happen!

THANKS!!! I'm glad I confirmed, I was about 99.9% sure it was for an external grill/fire pit/stove but wanted to confirm before I hooked anything up to it. Bad things will happen is probably a bit of an understatement..!!

thanks Handaman, that's actually one of the hoses I was looking at... can that valve vary to allow you to adjust the flame on a fire pit or gas burner?

The one Honda man referenced is just an extension hose and does not regulate the grill. It has 1/4 turn shut offs on the end but they do not regulate the flame.

To utilize you low pressure quick connect, you either have to have a low pressure grill or you can convert a high pressure grill to work on low pressure.

There are many different high pressure grill configurations so converting each one is different, depending on how the regulator is attached to the grill.
A search of this forum will turn up MANY discussions on this topic.

Below is a low pressure conversion that works well with the often used 'screw on' type regulators found on inexpensive grills that use 1 Lb. bottles. I use this with the $20 grills from Wally World and it works perfectly!

Thanks 5picker, that may be closer to what I need. I always cook with charcoal when we camp, but I have stand with a gas burner that I use with my turkey fryer that I thought would be great to bring along occasionally for clam bakes or maybe even a couple lobsters etc... just didn't want to bring an extra tank also

I have a turkey fryer stand/burner we use to fry chicken wings in a large cast iron kettle. It didn't do well with the low pressure adapter. Those fryer burners need LOTS of propane and work better directly off a 20# tank. It would have been OK for heating soup or similar but not frying.

If you want to use that fryer 5picker, all you need to do is change the El cheapo regulator Rockwood uses to a high capacity one like a Marshall MEGR-253H. It is rated at 350K BTU. The standard one Rockwood uses is generic and only rated around 120K BTU. I use a 3 burner Campchef Explorer stove and the stock regulator did not cut it, but the Marshall sure does. The Campchef has 3 30K BTU burners and I can burn them all 3 wide open. Most Turkey fryers are 35K to 40K BTU. The cheap regulator will not pass the needed volume.

Thanks Havercamp,
Never even crossed my mind as I've had the stove, oven and furnace running all at the same time with no reduction in output.
I will certainly take your advice!

FYI when I bought the Marshall and installed it I did have to set it back to 11" WC. It was close to 20" WC. out of the box.

The next limiting factor is the rubber hoses Rockwood uses for the gas lines but my Campchef works fine. My Keystone had 1/2" hard pipe for gas lines.

I have a camp chef 2 burner and a Gray Wolf. What type of hose should I be looking for?
It will have to have a screw on one end and the quick connect on the other.
Thanks.

I have a Brass T I made up with a male nipple and two female QD'S and ball valves to plug into the hose that pulls out on my Roo which has a female QD. I then have 2 15' hoses from Northern Tool made by buddy heater. I combined them into a 30' with a male nipped on one end and a QD on the other for my grill. I also have a 50' (omg heavy duty 250 psi rated 5/8" air hose where are the lpg police) set up the same way for the Campchef.
