Squirrels eating my LP gas Line

Has anyone have/had this problem. We have an RPod 178 (1 1/2 months old. I just replaced the line from the LP bottle to the regulator with a braided line. Does anyone know what size th male connectors are for the line that comes out of the regulator to the first connection underneath ?

Never had a squirrel eat a propane line but did have one bite into a high pressure line on one of our aerial bucket trucks at work, the line was between the holding valve and the lift cylinder, 2800 psi sure blows a squirrel apart !!!

I hope to shout!

And no, I'm not even sure if on could get in there to chew on a line the underbelly is enclosed.

Possums don't usually gnaw as they aren't rodents. If you want to keep rodents away, put out some moth balls. That will do the trick. We keep them hanging under the hood of our vehicles in tea strainers to make sure mice and squirrels don't chew up anything. They got into the wiring on my wife's last car and cost me $800 in repairs!

That's good advice, the possum thing is kind of a running joke I have with Skip

10-4 Sorry about that. My wife and I grew up in Texas and were very surprised (and upset) by the folks from up north who live here in Orlando and think possums and armadillos are bad things. I keep telling them possums will keep poisonous snakes away but they just think they're gigantic rats or something. The mothballs do work, though, on any rodents I've seen. We ordered several SS tea strainers on Amazon, filled them with moth balls and clipped the chains to various lines or whatever under the hood. You have to replenish them from time to time but it keeps the chewing down without harming anything. Thanks for letting me know about the inside joke. Have a great day!

You guys hijacked this thread in .07 seconds- a new world record!

Sorry Lillypad I don't know what size the fitting you ask about is.... I'll guess 1/2" NPT but it's purely a guess. Take the fitting in question to the hardware store or better
yet to your local LP dealer and they should be able to help you.
Good luck!

I have had squirrels in the yard eat through the hoses on the gas grills. I went to lowes and bought some metal wrap and wound it around the hose. Been on 2 years now with the same hose.

It may not come first to mind, but a lot of the wildlife "gnawing" that goes on is our own fault. It's good practice to wash your hands before handling exterior fixtures, or at least giving them a bleach spray or good wipe down as part of your dinner tear down.

If you think about it... you're spending an hour over the grill carefully tending your supper.. brushing all kinds of luscious concoctions that will make the most stalwart mouth water. THEN.. you take those hands and run them down your LP lines and valve to kill the grill... depositing tantalizing remnants that will make any gnawing rodent weak in the knees.

Just sayin...

Thanks for the responses. I know it is not possums. Plenty of squirrels were we live. Does anyone have an idea of the male end size for the LP hose from the regulator to the first junction area under the trailer ? Thanks

Opossums also help keep ticks down (stop reading here if you get creeped out easily). They tend to be "tick magnets" but also groom compulsively and "eliminate" the ticks, so after the opossums are in an area awhile, the tick population goes down radically. Just another service our little marsupial friends provide!

Have to disagree. We have possum and now armadillo that have moved up to Missouri. We have poisonous snakes -- being copperheads, that meander into our yard with possum present. And the armadillos make huge holes and tunnels. Possum smell like skunk and hiss, too. YUCK!!!

I bet you could call a propane supply company and they could tell you what size the fitting is.

Invited for dinner

Comming from an old Ruthianian family, it is our tradition to invite any mildly sizeable furry animal, which anounces itself by chewing on our Sunseeker, for dinner or lunch. While any one of them might not amount to much, there are many great ways to stew several furry animals together. Don't forget to use that propane to cook them with, and mind the small bones. Bon Appetit.
