Suburban heater extended coverage

Does anyone have any experience with needing to purchase an extended warranty on the heater thru Suburban? Is it potentially useful or do they rarely die?Click image for larger version

The main part of the furnace like the fire box are almost bullet proof other parts like the circuit board and igniter are a roll of the dice. It really depends on what the extended warranty costs compared to the cost of the unit.

My furnace experience - mixed

I had a 24 year old popup trailer that had a good working furnace. My new TT has started making a chirpy bearing noise and is in for warranty work now - hopefully they will repair the motor noise/replace furnace but the dealer might want to call it normal - I don't know yet. Would love to have the dealer sleep one night in my TT.

The warranty covers only the heat exchanger and it rarely fails so maybe this is not a good deal. My experience is that most failures are the thermocouple, fan, gas control valve and ignitor board which are not covered.

Looks like it's $30 to extend it from 5 years to 7 years. That's not horrible.

As stated.... there isn't much to go wrong. I had a board go out on my old unit and I had to buy one of them. They will "rust up" if you don't use them much and dirt dobbers will build in there if they can.

$30 is nothing if it makes you feel better.

With some of our older 5th wheels, we owned them 6-8-10 years and never a problem with the furnace.

Even with not having an issue, today's stuff just isn't built like yesterday's stuff so for $30, I bought the extended warranty. Hope I never have to use it. (the warranty)

Just remember that ALL extended repair contracts are money-makers for the seller, so ON AVERAGE you are better off being "self-insured".

It's just like Las Vegas - All those fancy casinos were not built with winner's money.

Thanks for all the good feedback and after further though I think I am simply going to use 17 of the thirty to get a 30 pack and the remaining change on a couple scratch offs. Might get lucky in multiple ways. Haha
