Water Heater Switch Question

Just got a 2018 Silverback 29ik. In the electric panel is a switch for water heater -- I assume that is electric mode.

In the water heater compartment is a switch -- I assume for propane mode.

Are my assumptions correct? It is a Suburban 10 gallon water heater.

Electric switch is on outside behind panel, gas switch is inside on control panel.

Caution: Do not turn on the electric side of the WH unless it is full of water. Doing so will burn up the element in a matter of seconds.

On my SAnibel, with a 10 gal. Suburban gas/electric water heater, both the switches are inside. I leave the unit on electric as I prefer using the parks electricity instead of my propane. I am usually the first up and showered. If my wife is going to take a morning shower, I will switch on the propane to increase the recovery rate.
Don't leave both switches on. The units are programmed to have the (my) propane be the primary heat source

I use the circuit breaker inside to conveniently take the electric heating out of play if I am on a weak breaker, then turn on the propane heat from the inside switch panel. Many of the parks seem to have "tired" breakers on the pole, and it stampedes the horses when I go out in the night to reset the breaker on the post outside!

If you are popping the circuit breaker on the post, I think you may have another problem. We have been on the road for 15 years and have yet to have to reset a breaker on the post. Breakers in the rig, yes, but never on the post due to overload

30 amp service, water heater, coffee pot, microwave, and hair curler or iron in addition to a/c? I'll bet you're running 50 amps! We have a nice rig, but we have to figure which appliances we will use simultaneously.
Breakers do lose capacity over time, though.

Not uncommon to pop breakers on the CG pedestals. Many of them have taken a beating over the years.

Never heard of that before, please explain the reason not to use both at the same time.

Just the opposite, the switch next to the water heater is electric mode and the switch on the electric panell is LP mode.

I was told that unless a circuit breaker is designated as a "switchable breaker" you are asking for premature failure by using it instead if the outside switch. Not hard to replace, but the outside switch is cheaper to replace when it fails as they are not the best quality either.

I don't know where your circuit breaker is located but my circuit breaker is in a spot that is much easier to replace than the switch that is mounted on my hot water heater if that ever became necessary.

I just added an inside switch for the electric element. Replace the crappy RV water heater outlet with an electrical box and a real outlet:

Install an electrical box at the location of your choice:
