Where to get this fill fitting

2018 Forester 3051s. The fill valve on the propane tank needs to be replaced. Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer is, or even the part name and number? Itís not worth the expense to drive to a dealer who will take six weeks to fix.

Go to a shop that installs propane equipment. Not an RV dealer. They can safely remove the propane, fix the inlet, test and refill in one visit.

You can get one here:

This is what you would need to replace the fill valve.

Out of curiosity Why does it need replaced in such a short time.

Thats only for tanks built prior to 1998 with no OPD.

When did they start putting OPD's on horizontal chassis mounted tanks????

20# and 30# tanks yes. Rest---no.

NFPA as of 2002.

As of April 1, 2002, OPDs are required on all propane cylinders between 4 and 40 pounds propane capacity, per the 1998 edition of NFPA 58, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code. Cylinders of this size manufactured after September 30, 1998, were required to have an OPD. A typical gas grill cylinder holds about 20 pounds of propane.

Reference is here.

The tank in a 3051 is 9.8 gallons or approximately 40#. When mine is filled its very obvious that the flow is abruptly shut off at about 80% full.

I’ve never been able to get more than Ĺ fill. Once the tank would not accept more than 2/10 gallon, even though I knew the tank was below ľ fill.

When I stopped to fill up at a Tractor Supply in Mississippi we ran into the same problem. Good ole boy working there said he had seen the problem several times on motor homes. He said the spring loaded internal shutoff in the valve was stuck. To verify that he put a plastic rod into the valve and gave it a few taps, with each one releasing a fairly strong spurt of propane. Hooked up the big tank and put seven gallons in.

This guy appeared to have a lot of experience with propane systems so I tend to believe him when he said the problem might recur the next time I filled, or it might last for 7-8 more fills. But, it was definitely going to fail.

Interesting mode of failure. You may be able to get FR warranty to reimburse you for the cost of repair. Get approval from them first. Dealr would probably want to swap the entire tank not just valve.
I have heard they can be rebuilt but probably not worth the effort. I would have to agree with Deuce find a good shop that can evac the tank replace the valve and fill. You dont want to remove the fill valve with any pressure in the tank.

Iím definitely hesitant anytime Iím around anything that can shock or burn me. I think I found a specialized propane facility about 10 miles away. Will give them a call Monday.
