Here are photos how to replace the electric element on a Suburban
dual heat electric/gas water heater.
This is a reasonably easy job for someone with basic hand tool experience.
SHUT OFF THE LP GAS AT THE TANKS AND UNPLUG THE TRAILER FROM
SHORE POWER BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES.
Also SHUT OFF WATER SUPPLY AND/OR WATER PUMP AND OPEN A FAUCET
TO LET OFF WATER PRESSURE.
Finally IS THE WATER HEATER HOT??? DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU HAVE
A TANK FULL OF HOT WATER.
Oh yes-- shut off the LP Gas water heater switch or shut off your main battery
switch. You don't want it trying to light even if the gas is off the spark could
"knock your socks off!"
You should remove your anode rod/drain plug FIRST before you remove
the electric element. This is because if you remove the electric element
and the tank has water in it- the water can leak behind the rear shield
and some will get inside your trailer. If you drain the tank by means of the
anode/drain plug the water should all stay outside!
IF YOU DON'T FEEL CONFIDENT TO DO THIS- CALL A PRO!!!
