Advice on fixing this mangled gutter spout

Hi,

After bringing my new TT home, I noticed that the right, front gutter spout (the thing that keeps the water from running down the side of the TT) was messed up. This ticks me off because I didn't see this in my PDI (which I did a couple of months ago) and it clearly looks like they tried to "fix" it and did a very bad job.

As you can see in the last picture, the water will come off the gutter and run backwards in the spout and then just run down the wall. The long end of the spout is actually tipped up.

So, I could take it back to the dealer - 50 miles away - or try and fix it myself. I tried removing the screw that you can see just to the left of the white caulk that they added but I couldn't move the spout - I think because it's caulked in on the bottom and side. I stopped short of trying to cut the caulk there to try and free it.

I'm not exactly sure how the spout is actually attached. Is it slid under the rail and fastened with a screw? How many?

Any suggestions on how to fix the rail and the cut/missing rubber seal covering the screw?

Take a Pic of the one on the Other side and Post! These are never (Pretty) but ours look a LOT better than this one! Missing some cover strip also! Very (Poor) job of Self leveling Dicor on the (Nose to Roof) joint as well!! Youroo!!

Here is what the other side looks like.

Yeah no Sh!t it's a bad job. I'm used to seeing the Dicor just globbed on but the caulking job and broken cover strip is really irritating.

On my Rockwood, those spouts are jusy trapped under the gutter. have tapped one while washing and tipped it, so out with the ladder and tipped it right back....seems to me they are snug enough to not come off while traveling.

I'm no rv technician but here is what I'd do instead of lugging the rig 50 miles to the dealer.

In post #1, 3rd pic, I would loosen or take the middle screw out and see if the spout can be angled down, then tighten the screw. Actually before putting the screw back, put some dicor or some silicon in the screw hole then tighten. Get some trim cover and screw it down too. I agree that caulking doesn't look too good on either side. I'd shape that up some too.

Sounds like I know what I'm talking about doesn't it?

Thanks, yeah I did pull that screw out and couldn't move the spout. If you look at pic 2, you can see that they actually did a good job of fairing the bottom of the spout into the side of the camper. I don't know if I can just cut that with a utility knife or what.

Pull the screw on the drip rail/gutter and get to work with a sharpened putty knife. The extension needs to come off for a proper re-installation. Yep, fine example of shoddy, don't give a rat's behind, workmanship.

The dealer has to replace the trim that is on the side, it looks like it is 2 to 3 inches too short & you can see that their is a screw missing. You are going to have water problems up there in the future. Poor workmanship someone cut the trim too short & used it anyways. I would the it back & have the dealer replace the whole trim. I would take a hard look at the rest of my RV & make sure there is no other problems. Good luck.

I agree.

Caulking doesn't have to be pretty to be functional but you know what they say about beauty?

I've had to do some very minor things to my TT since buying it new. I wouldn't say your problem is major BUT, if left undone in the future, it will become a major problem.

You paid xxx amount for something new. Expect it to be right.

tmhudg, when we got our 2015 Salem Cruise Lite last year, I pointed out the shabby caulking on the roof seams. They said that's the way it came from the Forest River. It looks like a 3 year old used Play-dough on it. I'm taking it in for it's 1 year check up and will have them inspect the entire seam. I've complained many times on this web site about poor workmanship and feel cheated, but we'll trade it next year and hopefully find something better even if we have to pay more.
