Armor All as a rubber roof protectant

Has anyone ever used Armor All on their rubber roof? I ask this as I have a lot on hand. Seems like it would be a good roof protectant.

I quit using Armor All on anything several years ago when I bought an old car that was in great shape, but the inside was filthy.

So I cleaned the dashboard with plain water several times until it was clean, then applied Armor All to make it shine.

The very next morning when I got in the car, the dashboard had split in several places.

I won't use it on anything anymore...

Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations/directives for caring for your rubber roof. I would never use Armor All on the roof of an RV, in fact I don't recommend Armor-All for any surface.

Ask a painter about cars that used it!

Yep...had the same experience with Armorall splitting a dashboard.

Besides never wanting ever to use it on anything again, if you used it on a rubber roof, it would make it dangerously slippery if and when you ever walked on it again.

My wife washed my truck one time and Armoreall'd the floor mats. Almost busted my ass trying to get in! Way too slick for a roof. Don't know, haven't read a label lately but it may have distalits in it. A no, no for rubber roof.

I wouldn’t give it to your friends, at least not if you want to remain friends

When I attended a camping rally in Albuquerque this past May I paid for a complete RV and truck wash & wax and they put Armor All on the running boards of my truck.

For two weeks every time I got in or out of the truck I almost slipped and broke a leg or two.

I finally got some hot soapy water and a scrub brush and scrubbed them until I got rid of most of it.

They also left a step ladder behind my truck and the wind blew it into my tailgate and left two very noticable dents...but that is another topic for another thread.

armor-all

Besides all of the above, I used to own a car detailing shop, I never used armor-all. It leaves a sticky film and you will never be able to clean your roof again.

No. Dicor Roof Gard for your rubber roof.

What are you trying to protect it from; the elements? It's a roof.

Thank you that was my next question. This is my first camper with a rubber roof and its 6 years old so I'm guessing its time to treat it with a protectant. I'll check into that.

NO, don't use it. Look at some of the tires it has been used on regularly and you will see lots of cracks.

What is a "rubber roof?"

The original poster (OP) declared he has a "rubber roof." What is that?

Well, it could be EPDM RV roof (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer). This is pretty easy to tell. Take down a fan or vent housing from the inside and you can see where the roof membrane folds in. If it is white on the outside (top surface) and black on the lower surface, it is an EPDM roof.

Or it might be a TPO RV roof (Thermal Poly Olefin). There are different cleaners, different treatments, and different re-coatings for each type.

In rare cases it could be fiberglass or aluminum.

Until the OP gives up his secret, it is foolish to make recommendations. Except for one thing: I think there is unanimous agreement that Armor-All is not the answer.

You're welcome, and check the sealer around the vents, AC, and end caps.
Follow the cleaning instructions before applying the Dicor. Mostly just a mild dish detergent. There are some things 'not' to use. Google is your friend.

Never use any product containing a petroleum distillate on a EPDM rubber roof. Use the Dicor products or Aerospace 303 protectant which can be purchased from Walmart online for $45.99.
