Black Oxidized Work and Play

Hello,

My Fiancée's father just gave us his old camper. The original owner must have had decals on the trailer and then removed them after a few years but now you can see the lines where the paint has faded around the decals. Someone told me that if this is a single stage paint than I can use a product like Meguiars #7 to restore the paint. What kind of paint is used on these trailers? Is a gelcoat? I need to know so I can figure out how to go about restoring the paint to a like new finish again. Any and all help is much appreciated!

Pat

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think you will be able to get the finish back to what was under the decals. Might try finding other decals to cover the spots.

I wrote Forest River an email asking about what the walls were made out of and the paint they use and I received the following response.
"The walls are a fiberglass. There is no paint as it is color made. You can use a buffer and compound to buff it. When you get it back to looking good you may want to consider using a protective sealant. There is a product on the market that many people have boasted about. It's kind of expensive but from what we have heard it's worth it. You can go to their website www.permanonusa.com and check them out."
