Caulking / putty used on sides of trailer?

Hello,

Does anyone know what material the factory uses when mounting bits and pieces to the vertical surfaces of our trailers? (butyl rubber tape?) I recently replaced a baggage door catch and the sealant behind came off cleanly. I was able to roll it around in my palms before flattening it out and reusing it. I would like to replace some of the other areas to make them look better, and may also attempt the LED tail light project. Thanks!

If it removed cleanly, and rolled up like "play doh", it was butyl tape. Some use that, and some use it and then caulk also. Hope this helps

Butyl tape is the best and lasts the longest, but you can also use plumbers tape. For RV use it comes 1" wide and about an 1/8" thk.
