Caulking Question
I plan on cleaning my roof tomorrow. While I was up there inspecting it I noticed a lot of the caulking around the covers and seams were cracked. Can I just caulk over the existing caulk? It would be a real PITA to remove the old caulking (it is 1" wide and about 1/4" in some places).

I have the same question. I've read on here somewhere that some just remove the loose caulking and then re-caulk. I am prepping to do some myself thanks for starting the thread.

Heat gun and a plastic putty knife is what I used when I installed a fan in my bedroom.
Works fast and easy!
Use dicor self leveling caulk.
Ps the dealer said you "can" clean old caulk really well and just caulk right over existing.

You can add more Dicor caulking to fill in any gaps and touch-ups. You could also look at putting Eternabond (or Dicor) tape over the entire caulked area as a more permanent solution. There's many threads on here discussing that if you use the search function.

I don't understand if the self leveling caulking is cracking, then why re-install the same product back on? Take off the Dicor self leveling caulking with a dull putty knife, then acetone to clean then use a 4" fiber back seam tape to cover all screws, this should be done on the front, back, all vents, plumbing and kitchen base. You want to use a 4" Seam tape that is going to accept your roof coating, never have a leak again. It works here in Florida....

I would like to know why it was necessary to use that much caulking material in the first place.

Is this amount of caulking normal?
I think that much is excessive and unnecessary.

Dey use BIG caulking gun and go real fast, hence the pump a pretty big bead, Remove it, caulk over it, put eternabond on; it will all work. The caulks weather and need to be cleaned and the eternabond last longer, or so I have heard.
Pick one and do it.

I would like to know how it turns out. I did the Dicor over the top of the existing caulking after cleaning it and it turned out good. Not sure I want to keep adding more Dicor every year...

As a former commercial waterproofing contractor, I recommend removing all old sealant. You wouldn't paint over old paint that is starting to peel, would you? I also like to see why things are cracking or leaking.
I use silicone sealants because they will outlast the trailer. I use butyl tape under lights, etc., because it can't fail unless they come loose.
Regardless of what you use, surface preparation is key.
Clean with alcohol and a rag, and wipe dry with a clean rag. Do not let the alcohol dry before you wipe it!
