Caulking Side Wall Of RV

This is for a Sunseeker class C.

The first picture is of the side in the cab over area.

It definitely needs caulk.

Questions (sorry in advance but I'm a newbie so want to do it right):

- What kind of caulk do I use? A dealer gave me a tube (second picture) but the directions pretty clearly say it's basically for roofs.

- Do I remove the caulk that's there? And if so, how? I don't really want to scrape at it with a putty knife as that will mark up the side.

Thanks!

You're right to not use that caulk for the window. That caulk is the "self levelling" type. You need something like Proflex RV Sealant for the vertical walls.

ProFlex RV Flexible Sealant - Bright White - Geocel 28127 - Roof Maintenance & Repair - Camping World

I wouldn't scrape the old cracked sealant off unless there is some loose spots. Just apply the new caulk over the old.

I would definitely very carefully remove the old caulk with a plastic blade, blow out the debris, wipe with acetone and re-caulk. Otherwise, you will never get a smooth finish or fill the voids.

Take a dull putty knife on an angle to get the old caulking off, then pro-flex...

OP here with an update. Thanks for everyone's advice. I picked up some plastic caulk removal tools, Goo Gone (saw on another forum that acetone wasn't recommended as it could damage fiberglass), and ProFlex. I scraped off the caulk that was loose. Some of the caulk is still firmly attached (in the picture below my finger). I was scraping hard and was only getting maybe a millimeter of caulk at a time. So I think I'm going to caulk the whole seam - the part where I removed the caulk and the part with most of the caulk still there (will just go over the existing caulk there). I am surprised how thin a line the original caulk from the plant is.
