Cheap plastic roof vents!!
Why in the world would factory use thin cheap plastic vent covers?? Oh yeah to save a few cents. well after just 3yrs mine are falling apart and have to be replace, but I never use them, can you buy a permanent vent cover?

The replacement plastic covers are just as cheap as the ones they replace.

Should have covered them with a Maxxair or Camco cover in the beginning and they'd still be good. The sun will deteriorate anything but metal ones.
As someone said, if you don't use them and don't need the light, just get some alum flashing and take the cover off and cover it and seal it with the alum flashing.

x3 on the covers. I also like them because you can have the vent open just about anytime and not worry about rain and such.
I like Camco because the front grate can be removed.

Learned here that the stock covers are not long for this world so I put on maxxair ones, bought on sale from camping world - not quite as much airflow as without but then no worries about rain getting in either.

I'm wondering - if sunlight is the hardest thing on these plastic covers, would painting them (white for instance) help keep the UV damage down?

Even though they are under MaxxAir's I still coat the operating vent covers with 303 twice a year. Then I do the Maxxair covers with 303 too.

That's what I did to 2 roof vents and the shower skylight. Used Krylon Plastic Paint. If you don't lay the paint on too heavy, you still get some light through if that's important to you.
