Crank up antenna Leak

We have a leak through the mechanism of the crank up antenna. All the seal around it next to the roof seems fine. However we get some water coming off the handle when we get a hard rain. Are their internal seals in the operator? How hard are they to replace?

Make sure the little rubber boot covering the coax connection is still in place. It should be slid down all the way on the wire.

and the boot shouldn't be cracked. How's the TV reception? If it's bad, you might have a corroded coax connection as well.

Yes, the crank does have an "O" ring on the worm gear part.

From reading my Winegard Sensar Antennas Operation/Installation Manual - All Models, I believe that there is a o-ring seal on the upper gear assembly where it rotates on the base plate and that there is a rubber ring on the crank handle assembly below the worm gear. Then, there's the rubber boot on the coax where it goes into the base plate (my coax does not and is routed through another roof location).

I have not replaced these seals, but I do lubricate them as recommended to minimize their becoming brittle and leaking. Access would be from on your roof. Perhaps, you could decide on the difficulty after looking over the parts page in your antenna manual. It does NOT have disassembly instructions to guide in this. Here's a couple pics from that manual.

The rubber quad ring is the culprit. It is easy to replace and readily available at most camping world or other camping supplies. The black plastic nut shown in the picture above, where it says "spray lubricant into hole" must be removed. The connecting shaft and seals is removed and new shaft installed. I lubed mine with silicone grease when I replaced it. Not sure how much I paid, but it was less than $20.00.

Forgot -- the shaft is universal and will need to be cut to length. The lower control knob must be removed first.
