Dangerous lock issue

Hey y'all, check out this recall. You may have a lock that could jam and you would not be able to exit your RV. I happen to have one of the key codes listed, so I will be contacting the lock company.
http://www.fastecindustrial.com/recall/Fastec%20Cylinder%20Recall%20letter.pdf

I went out to my camper a little while ago and tried to remove the key when it is in the 9 o'clock position and mine will not come out. However, I don't want to take any chances and the recall says, if you have the key code OR your key can be removed in the 9 o'clock position, you should contact them for cylinder replacement. I have many time left our camper for an early morning walk and locked my DW in the camper!
Check your locks and keys!

Not all locks are affected. My key falls between two affected numbers and the lock works as advertised.

Glad yours is OK, Herk. I can't imagine trying to get out one of those emergency windows. It would be painful!

Mine were involved in the recall. Never had any problems with them but had them replaced a couple of weeks ago while having the TT in for some other warranty issues. Did not want to try the emergency window thing.

Thanks for the heads up. Both doors are keyed with the duds, although I've never had a problem - without thinking I've always centered the key before removing. Never received a letter though.

You won't recieve a letter you need to call fastec to get them to send you the kit. Not hard to change out at all. Took me all of 10 minutes.

Mine is also between the numbers listed but my key comes out in the 9:00, 12:00, and 3:00. I have yet to try and see if it jams the lock from the inside. If so, and they don't cover it I will replace it myself.

From the link posted above.

Regardless of what key code is on your lock, the lock is affected by this recall program if you can remove the key from the deadbolt cylinder in the 9 o’clock position after engaging the deadbolt. To determine if your lock’s deadbolt operates properly, you should cycle the deadbolt cylinder through all of its operating positions with the user keys. If you can remove the key in 9 o’clock position while the deadbolt is engaged, your cylinders need to be replaced with a new set of cylinders as part of the recall program

There was a thread on this about 3 months ago. One of our doors had the defective lock.

We contacted the company and they're *so* easy to work with. While we were on a trip (before the replacement) that lock went South on us. DH took it apart and put it back together. So far it's working fine, but we have the replacement lock that we'll use if needed.

The company sends a small tool that makes removal of the bad lock quick and easy, and an envelope to return the bad lock to them.

Edit; we have two doors on our RV so a total lockout can't happen.

Many thanks Joe!

Mine were involved in the recall also. Easy ordering process via the Fastec web site and even a "how to" video to change the cylinder out. Looks like it will take about a minute.

Thank you for this information. We have never had any issues but we do have the key with the recalled code. We can't check our lock because we just put our Sabre in an old limestone mine for winter storage....won't be getting it out until March or April.

It would probably be a good idea to get the ball rolling now.
Then all you need to do is install the new locks after you retrieve the trailer.

I just checked mine and ayup, it's an affected one. On their website someone can order a whole ring of keys like many campground maintenance staff have. What a goldmine for the bad guys.

I saw that as well and thought that was not a good thing that the bad guys could order a whole set of keys. However, then I remembered that the bad guys would only use a screwdriver or crow bar. One tool would work on all campers!

I just received the replacement tumblers with keys and the removal tool.
Looks like they want the old ones back.
To late to make the change today so I will get on it tomorrow.

Mine came today as well.
Seems like a fast swap so I will try and run between the raindrops...

Ours came yesterday. But our camper is stored in an old limestone mine until April. Hope they aren't in a hurry to get the old ones back!!
