Darn roof leak

Hi. I decided to give the roof on our Surveyor Sport SP-186 a look before we take it camping in a couple of weeks. Darn-found a 3/4" rip in the rubber roof and about a one square foot soft roof under, at the front edge of the roof. Must have happened during the winter, maybe a stick hit it during a storm.

Would this repair require replacement of the whole roof, or just a portion a couple of feet back from the front? I'm relatively handy, but not sure I know how to go about this fix. I guess it would involve removing a portion of the roof, replacement of the rotten wood, and recovering with new rubber. Anyone do this themselves?

Assuming I should leave it to a pro, can someone recommend a good/reasonable repair shop or person in the Norfolk, VA area?

Thanks in advance.

If you are real handy and careful you might be able to peal the rubber back make the repair and glue it back down. Finish up covering the rip with eartbond and you should be good to go.

Hi Rich. Sorry to hear about your troubles. It would be impossible to tell without looking how to fully repar this or if a new roof is in order. Pictures might help some here to advise you. I have not done a repair to EPDM so can't help too much.

However, I suggest you google "rubber roof repair kits". These typically come with material, adhesive and sealer. Dicor, Camco, and Eternabond all have kits.

Best of luck and, again, pictures would help.

Your problem is what Eternabond was made for.

I keep a six inch wide roll and a can of spray primer in the camper at all times.

Thanks folks. If only the roof rubber was affected, I would tackle it. Seems it has gone too far and there is rot below. Not sure I want to tackle that. I am somewhat lazy now that I'm retired. But after I get an estimate I might change my mind.
