Eternabond - the good, the bad, the ugly
I am taking delivery of my 8528CKWS April 21 and I have been told by some that I should apply eternabond sealant tape to the roof seams to give it lifelong protection from leaks. Is it that good? Should I wait until the warranty expires?

If you check your roof warranty. The owner is resposible for the maintenance of the roof seams and inspections. So putting Eternabond gives it the 25-year insurance that everything is sealed. Just be sure to follow the directions when applying. I admitt that i didnt take the time to be sure the to clean the area properly before laying the tap down.and some eadges started pealing up on me. I called Enternabond and told them.(even admitting to them after talking to them, maybe I didnt take the time to clean very well). They replaced all the tape and sent me the spray cleaner to use for replacing. The stuff sticks where you put it...so be sure it gets where you want it !! So anyway I would tape the seams for the 25-year protection. You still should take a peek once a year to make sure everything (tape) is staying in place.

Putting the eternabond down on a brand new camper is the best time to apply it. The original goop is still sticky, and there is no dirt to remove.
But apparently there might be some silicone on the rubber roof material, and that MUST be cleaned off before you apply the tape.
I did every seam on the roof, using 6 inch wide for the big seams front and back, and 4 inch for the roof vents, skylight, and tv antenna.
I think it will keep the original goop from drying out, thus providing a lifetime double seal on all of the seams.

I bought it online, but forget where.
Just google 'eternabond' and you should get quite a few sellers. Just check for the best price. It was a lot less than retail.

Well then,, that Crocus guy should post them here on this thread. Incidently, I just minutes ago order (2) 4"x50' rolls on ebay for around $50 per roll plus shipping.

Actually it was someone else who posted those great pictures, but the jobs were very similar. I can't remember what thread that was though.

I believe there are dealers in Canada, but why pay the price? Buying over the internet is both super easy and much cheaper.
But order the 6 inch tape, as that width is needed for the big seams. It can be cut down to any width for other spots.
One 50-foot roll did all the seams on my roof.

Thanks, we called the company and Home Hardware does sell it here. They quoted us a price and we'll check out the price here, just to see. Sometimes shipping is outrageous. Is it easy to cut by one's self?

Home Hardware? Really!
Yes, it is easy to cut with an Olfa knife. You do need to keep the blade clean. If it gets a bit of the sticky stuff on it, it will want to grab the tape. But it isn't a big problem.

Home Hardware does list it but nothing longer than 5' lengths. Maybe they'll order longer if asked. I may swing by on the way home and do just that.

...I posted on another thread as well...maybe in the wrong place...sorry...
My question...is this stuff forever? looks like from the above reading it is good for 25 years? We bought a new tt this year (our first besides a pup) and we want to make sure it stays "as good as new"...wondering if we should pick this stuff up and seal away?
in case it matters tt is fiberglass with vinyl roof--flagstaff microlite 23lb
thanks for all the great info.

I, and others, answered your other thread. It should outlast the camper if done according to the directions. You MUST use the primer spray on all surfaces it will be stuck to (plastic, vinyl or rubber) and the top white surface of the tape if you are going to put an overlapping layer on it.

Pics of my eternabond job; taken from my bedroom window.
I applied this three weeks ago and it has rained everyday since. No leaks.

Most of the applications I've seen here are have been on rubber roofs. Has anyone applied it to a fiberglass roof? My fiberglass roof is rough and sort of 'dimpled' like a golf ball. Can eternabond be applied to a fiberglass roof as well and will it hold as well as it does on the smooter rubber roof?
Thanks.

I'm in BC and ordered it from here:
Eternabond RoofSeal Roof Repair Tape, RV Roof Repair Tape, Miracle RV Roof Tape
Best price on the net and they ship USPS, so there's no brokerage fees that the other shippers hit you with (UPS/Fedex).
All the best,
Mike

Is this the consensus that you MUST use the primer spray. All I've read so far says make sure it's clean using a non-silicone cleaner. I'd planned on using acetone but hadn't planned on getting the primer spray
p.s. Back to my previous post I checked my local Home Hardware here in Canada and they were familiar with the name Eternabond but didn't have it in stock and no offer was made to order it. Might be hit and miss because it is listed on the website.
