Front cap loose

8 month old Luxury Light by Prime Time. Got on top today to wash, and the caulking is loose for about two feet at top of front cap. The reason is although you can see where they caulked the screw holes...there are no screws in half the holes. They just caulked a loose cap. Now I have to deal with Camper World.Click image for larger version

If it were mine, I'd save myself the trip and aggravation of dealing with a dealer. Carefully remove some of the old dicor with a plastic putty knife, add stainless screws where there is none, clean it carefully with acetone, mineral spirits or denatured alcohol (everybody has their theories and preference) maybe add some new dicor 501, let cure, cover from cap to roof with 6" eternabond.

I may end up doing that Big John, just a little concerned about a.) warranty being effected and b.) it almost looks like the cap is warped so that could be the reason the tech didn't screw it down. Almost looks like it could crack if you screw it down.

Do Not Add any screws unless you wish to have large cracks in your fiberglass cap. If you take the transition molding off you will see the cap is not screwed to the body of the coach. Fiberglass caps are "free floating" held in place by the four edge moldings. The edges of the cap are scalloped out so screws can be installed in every other hole in the molding without penetrating the glass cap. The extreme torquing of the campers box would break up the cap. That is why it is imperative to keep a close eye on the seams of units with ridged glass caps. Looks to me like a very poor bonding of the sealer to the roof. I would recommend cleaning off the current sealer and installing eternabond or extreme tape over the molding and seal the edges of the tape. Use a wall paper roller to get good adhesion . This allows the cap to move under the tape and remain sealed. Remember the sides are the same. So keep an eye on your vertical moldings also.
