Hail through the bathroom skylight 2006 Salem 27BH
Hi guys, I recently purchased a one owner, 2006 Salem 27BH. On my first trip out with it I ran into a hail storm! It took a few dings to the front skin, but, once we arrived at the park and started setting up I noticed a nice size hole in the bathroom sky light. Are these skylights easy to replace? I got up on the roof and covered the hole with duct tape for a temporary fix, although when home, the trailer is stored under my barn awning. My local Forest River dealer said I could drop the trailer off, but it might be a month before they could look at it. I have access to a scissor lift and a positive attitude... Is this something I can handle?
While on the roof, I noticed that most of the various roof caps feel brittle. This unit was well maintained, but did spend most of its life at the PO's lake lot, so it has seen a lot of sun.

Yes easily replaced.
But I would consider also adding max air vent covers for extra protection plus all the added benefits of the max air vent covers.

There's really not much to these. Although I haven't replaced just a lid, I don't see it requiring that much effort. I say go for it!

I am wondering if the OP is referring to the skylight over the shower.

He said both. Hole in skylight and brittle vents. The Max Air's are good the the vents. Skylight will just need a replacement. Shouldn't be too much of an install. Just cut the caulking, remove old, install new, recaulk.

The skylight is pretty much dead center in the bathroom. It's 14"x14".

The sky light in my shower looks to be a two piece unit, one on the outside and one that is screwed to the ceiling.

You can replace all of the (Brittle Lids) they are very cheap$. Also put on the (MaxAir Covers)! Now for your (Shower Skylight) measure it and give the Dealer your VIN# also,(Make sure they order it and have it shipped by (UPS,USPS,FedX) don't let them ship by the (Next unit that comes by transport to them(Dealer), that method is at times the (Slow Boat to China)! Take your time removing ALL the sealant from the Skylight and Not harm the Roof Membrane! NOTE! use your camper until you have the (Correct!) skylight In Hand! Youroo!!

That's another reason I installed this over the skylight in addition to cutting some of the heat coming in.

the two small circular vent caps are also quite brittle. One has a few small holes. I'm thinking about replacing those also.

Easy to do while you are up there and may save you a problem later.

Agree, but post #1 clearly states skylight two times, which evidently eluded FT Turbs.
