Holding tank vent
Anybody use a swivel roof vent for their holding tanks? One is called Clclone, that supposedly prevents any gasses from entering the cabin. They're also a money saver because, again supposedly there's no need for tank chemicals. At least that is what's being said by a salesman.

Imho they only work when the toilet is open for a brief second.
99 percent of the time they just sit up there and rotate.
You have a closed waste system therefore it can and only will work when the toilet valve is open during flushing.
Pass.

Thanks. You saved me some $$$. That may explain why only the salesman has one!

You will still need chemical. Preferably the GEO method.

You could also put a colorful propeller on top for hours of free entertainment.

I got one real cheap, put it on and only notice a difference when we stop for breaks while traveling. Not worth $.

I have one on my 5er. When it's windy, it acts as a venturi and creates a vacuum therefore pulling the gases and smell out of the black tank.

This is about 4 or 5 times in the last week I have to agree with Turbs. (Something is wrong here) And, for them to work, you have to have a wind when you flush or otherwise they do nothing. Totally useless!
They are just a trinket like Herk's banana slicer. Altho' the banana slicer comments are comical.

I have to disagree with you OC & Turbs. All it needs is wind to work. You don't have to flush. The pipe from the black tank to the vent is open all the time. When the mess in the black tank is breaking down it creates heat which will go up the vent pipe. With the venturi effect working when it's windy, it will pull the gases out. Notice I did say windy. That's why there is a vent in the 1st place. It does work for me. My 4.5 cents.

Beg to differ, there are no chemicals in a black tank like in a septic tank to cause a chemical break down of the material and it is a closed system just like an empty bottle with the top off. With wind blowing, there will be little if any vapors coming out the vent or the empty bottle sitting in the wind.
BUT, if you like them, by all means use it/them. Just my take on it.

Sounds like a winner to me. Like I said, if you like them and think they work, all the better for you. I'll save the few bucks and buy tires as bad as I hate to.

I haven't experienced it with my Cedar Creek, but I had a pull behind that would allow fumes to escape during a flush when the weather was hot and the tank was over 1/3 full. I had to do something to keep the DW happy and I didn't think the rotating vent would do the trick. I installed a little fan called a 'Lil Stanker'. Lil' Stanker™ In-Line Deodorizer Fans
That sucker (pun intended) worked great! A happy wife is a happy life!

X2. Having a slight neg pressure on the system does help IMO. I kinda think they are pretty nifty.
The tank and vent are always aspirating some air due to temperature changes, expansion etc so it does help to always have the air flow out the top.

Since we never had a problem such as the kind this device is supposed to prevent I will pass.
BTW - correct name is Cyclone

Otherwise its decoration.
