Ice storm damage

Well cleaning up from the ice storm had to move my old trailer so we can take down some dangerous trees. Was quite proud of my truck pulling the trailer out the snow and ice that surrounded it but really disappointment when I finally got inside. 4 holes in bedroom roof 3 made it through the ceiling, got them temporarily plugged. Now for the fun of dealing with the insurance company good thing I didn't totally take all the insurance off when I bought the new trailer. Wasn't going to but Agent suggested it good thing I listened.

Anybody know the best way to get the ice off the roof, thought about turning heater on and seeing if it would thaw it out, know not to do too much to the outside but had to break some ice around the damage to seal holes temp.

Your roof has insulation in it and I think it would take an awful lot of internal heat to melt your roof ice and snow. Can you call around and find a heated garage or a heated storage facility where you could get a short term rental? You might want to file a claim and suggest that to your insurance too. They might be glad to pay for a short term rental to prevent further damage rather than pay additional consequential damages. Good Luck.

If you have access to a space heater (portable fuel burner) you could throw a tarp over the top of the TT and have the space heater discharge hot air under to tarp. Just make sure only the hot air flow gets to the tarp you wouldn't want to set a fire to it.

Let the sun take it off. Why risk falling 10 ft onto hard as concrete dirt or scrape a hole in your roof?

It doesn't matter any more the adjuster was here today and he claims it will cost more to repair than the trailer is worth. He also claimed you can't patch the rubber roof. Looked up the materials for this and they would cost around 600$ plus labor. He claimed it would cost over 6000$, I am glad Insurance Agent talked me into keeping it insured until I could sell it. Hope I get close to what its worth now.

Mark; As a reference I'm having a new roof installed next week on my 33' 5er and the cost is $4273. This is an insurance claim from woodpecker damage. You might want to call a few RV service facilities and see what they would charge and compare it to what the adjuster quoted. Good luck.

Just going by the price you showed I figure that they are charging you about 129$ / foot to do your roof and at that price for my old 25 foot came out to about 3200$. Then I have inside damage that could cost another 500$ which brings me to about what nada says its worth. Don't know if its worth the hassle when we were going to sell it anyway.

Your numbers make sense. Here's hoping that you can now get that RV of your dreams.

That trailer is now what is called a deer hunter special.

Some guy will patch the roof with old license plates covered in eterna-bond tape. Might or might not fix the inside holes.

Then the little trailer will disappear into the woods, never to be seen again.

Somebody will give you something for it.

If the insurance Co. totals it and hands you a check for whatever they think it is worth they own it, no?
Do you not have the option to buy it back for what ever you think it is worth?

That's the way it usually works. If I can get it cheap enough and try to patch it and sell it to someone for hunting or something like that to make up the amount I wanted for it. No license plates involved in patch though, spray foam and eterna bond plus some self leveling caulk around the edge of the patch just for the hell of it on the roof. Not sure on the inside going to have to punt for now.

Im sorry to here about the damage.I to say turn on the furnace. What I would do to is crank it up or down all the way so when the sun and furnace help melt it the water will run off the roof. good luck

Well the damage done by the ice storm didn't seem to bother people wanting a trailer, had several inquire about our old trailer all were made aware of the patches on the roof and still wanted it. Well it's SOLD. That's a wonderful thing. Thanks for the input to help fix it.
