Wow. Have you tried dabbing the caulk with a rag containing Clorox? I know from experience that even acetone will not damage gelcoat, as that is how I remove decal glue on our rigs, so I can't imagine Clorox would either. You would just have to rinse thoroughly and rewax afterwards.
And mold in Seattle doesn't surprise me, even the sidewalks mold out there
. But I do agree with Eric that a cover would promote mold growth in an environment like Seattle.
