Newbie part 3

I picked up a sweet little 2012 Salem cruise lite and we are taking our first trip this weekend. Overall the unit is in great shape. I did a small project of roof sealant on one area that was purely preventative. Now I’m on to more cosmetic things that bug me.

All of the windows and storage compartments have sealant that has “leaked” or ran down several inches from the bottom. Almost looks like the camper got so hot at one point that some of the sealants got very soft and started to run. It’s a grey looking sealant and it appears that it will come off the siding. It isn’t silicone I don’t think.

Has anyone ever seen this happen? I don’t think there is any danger that enough sealant ran out that I have any concern about leaking. But it just looks bad on an otherwise spotless trailer. What would you all recommend to remove this tacky substance without damaging paint?

Thanks!

Another sign of very high temps was the radio surface almost feels greasy and sticky. I’ve seen car radios and controls do this as well. Also the radio works but the buttons don’t always work. You push volume and it goes off. I think the circuits got too hot possibly. It’s almost like the radio controls are melted.

It may have sat in a lot in direct Sun for a while all closed up. That could explain what you are seeing.

These things can definitely build some heat in the summer. If you have vent covers, I'd leave your roof vents open anytime it's parked and unused. We also use reflective insulation on our windows to cut down on heat transmission.

That’s what I’m thinking happened. I do leave the vent cracked to allow heat to escape.

Any suggestions on a product to remove the adhesive runs?
