Painting new a/c Shroud/cover
Somehow cracked my front a/c cover. Bought a new one yesterday. Problem is, it is white. Every other vent cover and other a/c covers are champagne color. Can I call or email Forest River and give them my serial/VIN# and get a can of spray paint to match the original? Thanks in advance. Steve A. Dagro

I doubt they paint covers, is there a paint shop that would make up a can of paint for you?

I would take a piece of the old cover if you can to your local hardware/paint store and see if you can match something up....make sure you tell them what type of material it is that you plan on painting....there is a procedure for plastic and different one for aluminum etc...

I actually found a spray paint at Hobby Lobby...of all places that will work on plastic. Only problem is it is interior. A local painter told me I could seal it with a clear sealer/urethane and it should hold up. Also found one at Advanced Auto which is a metallic finish in the "almost correct color". Never exactly matches the cap on can. These cans are pretty pricey and about 1/2 the size of Krylon/Rustoleum etc. Probably would be cheaper to use 2/3 of the smaller cans than to have something custom mixed. Sherwin Williams told me they could mix it but it would not have a metallic finish which would look completely different. Other option is to repaint both a/c shrouds as well as the 2 vent covers black. Would this effect the efficiency of the units? Never realized how difficult it would be just to replace an a/c shroud. My air conditioner cover that came with my FR 378 is black but it was painted black (the outside) by FR. The inside is white. Dometic sells white and black AC covers and possibly your color but it, like mine, may have been painted your color over a white one by FR. Can't hurt to check with them as you are doing.

After checking with RV dealers and paint dealers and getting opinions on here, I went to a nearby O'Reilly's Auto Parts and found a color match to my OEM shroud in an 8oz spray can for 8 bucks. Had to go to 2 stores as each store only had one can. Hopefully 2 cans will do it but if not another location has 1 can as well. Thanks for all the replies and ideas. Now I just need a good day to paint and dry so I(actually firefighter nephew) can install. Steve A. Dagro

Be sure to sand, primer before you paint.
Might try some clear coat after.

should I use like a #500 paper to sand prior to painting to kinda knock the shine off of the new shroud?

That would work, primer will need something to stick to then use a tack cloth to remove loose paint, dirt and what not.
Be sure to NOT touch the cover with your bare hands after this hard work.
