Power awning won't go out

My Dometic 9100 power awning won't extend. I can hear motor kicking it when I hit RETRACT but no sound at all when I hit extend. I know there's a method to manually retract but without a strap attached I don't thing you can/or should manually extend it. Any ideas?

It might be as simple at a wire coming off the switch pull the switch and check it

The same 2 wires are used for out and in. The switch just switches the polarity. Check the switch.

I had issues recently where my motor failed. Here’s what it did:

I ultimately had to replace the motor. I just wrote a post about it on another thread. Let me know if you can’t find it.

Mine will do the same on occasion, it gets stuck so I have to push the extend button while standing in the door and push on it to get unstuck...happens all the time! I guess I need to clean it real good!!

Try using the remote if you have one. I know of two instances of awnings not retracting using the panel switch but worked with the remote.

Each I extend I need to give a push on the roller to get it started...no problem retracting though !

Power awning won't go out

Not sure if this is the same problem some are having, but on my electric awning, I had problem extending and required 2-people, wife on the switch and me pulling on the awning arm next to the entry door pulling it away from the frame. Once it got out about 4-5 inches it would continue using the switch. Problem was that at the factory they forgot to install an awning bumper kit. While this was installed under warranty, the problem was never really resolved until Orvin at Amish Family RV discovered that the awning kit was not installed correctly. He corrected an since then has been flawless operation. Knock on wood.

This is the part message from the sales dealer showing various awning numbers in case it helps anyone.
'Dometic makes a bumper kit for the electric awning to correct this.

Also check the connector which will be in the support arm up near the motor. Take care when removing the motor (just removing the cowling doesn't help), secure it with rope because the thing is very heavy.

Awning Motor

Identical problem I’m having. Dropped mine off at Camping World of Jackson MS in early March. They replaced the front strut and said it was fixed. Went to pick it up last week after almost 3 months (it was finally ready) and it still didn’t work. Now, they have ordered a motor.
Almost brought it home because I no longer have faith in them, no excuse to take this long. They have ordered a motor. We’ll see....

My Dometic 9100 awning would not retract on the last day of our last trip with a 4 hour ride ahead of us. We had no luck getting a mobile tech to look at it for us. After a lot of Google searching, i decided to drive to the local hardware store and buy 10' of lamp cord to jump the motor. Stripped the wire and touched it directly to the battery and the other end to the motor connector at the end of the awning arm (picnic table came in handy for this). Boom! the awning rolled right up! if you swap the connections at the batter or connector, it will reverse the direction.

The Dometic 9100 installation guide identifies the installer should create an "in-line" fuse on the power connection. That is why there is no fuse in the panel. I have yet to find mine. Its not in the arm, so I'm assuming its behind the panel and potentially in the wall. I'll share an update and some pictures when I find the fuse.

Had an issue with mine this year. Used a drill to run it out some and back in and it started working again.

power awning wont go out

How do you connect a drill to the awning?

What would be the order of trouble shooting please?

Thanks,

Graham ( new Microlite owner)

If you have the Dometic 9100, I am not aware of a method to operate it with a power drill. I have to use a jumper cable (12' of lamp cord) to operate it when it is not getting power from the switch.

The Solera power awning from LCI can be manually run with a power drill.

I don't recall which model awning I have but there was a cover on the forward head. Once removed it had a place for a socket.

I am not mechanical at all. When I press my buttons to put the awning in or out, nothing happens. What would you check first? I have a 2019 Forrester. Thanks!

The awning fuse. Don't know where it is on your unit though. My awning inline fuse is connected directly to one of the coach batteries.
