Tennis balls are probably the best solution. Before I learned of using them, I used blue painters' tape wound around the gutters, extended beyond the ends. Stayed secure all winter yet did not leave any glue when removed in the Spring.

My husband cut up a pool noodle and tightened them on with zap straps ... Worked great ...

Simple the paperwork that comes with the cover should have told you about this issue (very common issue) just take a roll of toilet paper and tape them in place over the ends of the rain gutters and you are good to go with your cover.Happy Camping

Our cover came with the little pillowcase type covers for the downspouts. The case stayed on and the downspout still poked a hole in the new cover. Now we are using tennis balls.
