Roof Preventive Maintenance Question
We just purchased a 2008 Forest River Wildcat 30LSBS. Our previous camper was a newer Jayco Jay Flight. We bought the Jayco from a dealer who had done all the roof maintenance prior to purchase and we only owned it about 18 months, so never had the need to re-do. After the purchase of the Wildcat, we found out that there had been some previous roof/wall damage from a leak caused by a tree branch. This was repaired at the dealership and there do not appear to be any leaks now. This repair was done a few years ago, and the owner said he has done nothing to it since in the way of maintenance.
We would like to do some preventive maintenance on the roof and all areas that need caulking. Is this a DIY or do we need to take it in for this service?I have been reading up on these and other forums and have a tentative plan, but wanted to make sure we are on the right track.
1) Clean roof with mild detergent.
2) Use Dicor self-leveling around ladder and other "round" areas on the roof.
3) Use Eternabond around roof vents, and all seams around the edges. Also use Eternabond on the outside edges of the slide (the part furthest from the trailer when extended).
4) Use ProFlex RV on any areas except the roof that need caulking (around windows, outside speakers, etc.
Does this sound reasonable? Also, we are looking for prevention here, so should we go ahead and caulk, Dicor, Eternabond all surfaces, whether there appears to be a leak or not?
There does not currently appear to be much in the way of caulking on the roof, not even around the vents, or AC unit, but it may be because it was redone in the past few years.
Any help is greatly appreciated! We have been sick since finding out there was a previous leak, and want to prevent anything else in the future.
Thank you in advance for any advice!
