rubber roof and Dico self leveling lap sealant

Yesterday I used Dicor EPDM Self leveling Lap sealant on the roof of our Coachman 16FB which specifies it has a rubber roof. I only applied it along the edges of existing sealant. Today I noticed the new stuff is rippled and the rubber is lifting away from the roof anywhere where
this has been applied. Is this normal and will it gradually settle down or do I have a problem now? This was done after I cleaned the 2 year old roof with soap and water on Friday and noticed the old sealant needed touching up in spots. In the top picture the stuff was originally flat when applied, the roof is lifted under those puffy looking areas. They had white putty there originally and it had come loose and was black underneath. I scrubbed it down with soap and after and after it dried applied the dicor.

The solvent in the decor will make the rubber material swelll a bit but it will go back to being tight after the solvent evaporates. Other than your application being on the heavy side, it sould be fine.

On our old Teton I opted for eternabond tape rather then sealant and never regretted it.

Only place I applied heavy was the 4 corners where I removed the putty. When I saw the rippling I was thinking OH No now what! I applied it to the top of the old stuff and let it run down onto the top and then ran a bead against that. How soon after the dicor is applied until I can put the cover back on ? I'm thinking a month, or does the stuff stay soft longer than that?

The decor should be dry enough.in a couple days depending on your local temperature. The sealant is designed to stay soft and flexible. As long as it does not stick to your finger, you should be ok for the cover to be put on.

IMO< you should apply a thin layer of Dicor over the old stuff. Especially where the seam/cracks are. Clean prior to that if you have not done so. You application looks better than what I have seen applied by RV techs.

Not all, never put new lap sealant over old it's putting lipstick on a wound, take off all lap sealant, self leveling caulking acetone then put down a 4" fiber backed seam tape that accepts a coating, never inspect your seams again..

I clean off as much of the dried old stuff as I can and then apply a liberal covering of the seam with Dicor. Nothing works better. I haven't found anything that works as well.

No need to remove all the old lap sealant. Just remove the loose stuff that you can easily remove, then clean the remaining old sealant. I've used acetone rather than the Dicor roof cleaner product.

If you've touched it up several times and it's beginning to build up you could then remove it all but it's not really necessary.
