Sabre Rubber roof edge and Cover chafing
Hello, Wondering on others experience with Adco covers, particularly on Sabre 5th wheels. My story is a little long as I had roof problems last year ( brand new 2012) as per another thread, dealer and Forest river agreed it was manufacturing defect and replaced rubber roof last fall. I covered with brand new ADCO cover. When uncovered this spring I have several spots like in attached pic were the black rubber is showing. Dealer says the cover is at fault, suggesting in the wind it is chafing the roof edge. The service dept now states they do not recommend covers? Yes I bought the cover from same dealer sales dept. Thoughts /comments on covers and chafing?.
One item of note as you can see in my pic, all Sabre's have this very sharp (90 degree) edge. I saw mine when it was apart and basically it is the edge of the particle board, a 90% sharp angle, and very rough finish with imperfections/ spurs in board. When the rubber is pulled over this it creates alot of bumps and roughness along that edge for both the cover to rub on and for pressure from below to push up on these points.
In looking at most other brands and they seem to have nice "rounded" edge, looks like they use a piece of moulding or a plastic rounded cover that creates a nice smooth rounded edge for the rubber roof, and would prevent this kind of issue. Simple design flaw in my opinon.
Any others members with good/bad experience with cover and this roof edge, particluarly on a Sabre. Or general comments?
One question. It was suggested to run a 4 inch strip of etrnabond tape the length of the trailor over this edge to provide extra thickness and seal. Any one done this or similiar?
Thanks
