Butyl tape is kind of like strip putty. It can be bent around curves and pressed into recesses. Press the tape into the recessed area around the edge of the light where it says "caulk."

Thanks for the follow-up and since I'm not that mechanically inclined as you can tell by my questions I just want to make sure I get it on right the first time so on the shower box would you butt the ends of the tape together instead of overlapping at the corners and on the round flange just bend it around the outside circle of the flange? BTW thanks for all of the help I've received from you and others on this site since I acquired my used Surveyor late last summer.

I would overlap 1/8 inch.

I used it when our galley drain cracked a the elbox maiden trip and could not use the kitchen for the first 2 days wondering why there were bubbles and a soapy smell at teh back of the trailer on the ground.
This product saved me for the next week until I could lget to a location where I could get a hack saw, more ABS piping and a couple collars.

Now I'm out of it and havent got a clue where to go to replace it. Lcoal RV shops dont carry it here.
