Stove vent

I have a new 21fbrs. The outside vent from over the stove is plastic. Unlike my last trailer, I can't figure out how to unlock. Two tabs on the bottom but don't seem to do anything. Don't want to break it figuring it out

I believe those two tabs can move up or down, moving 180 degrees, so that they go to the outside of the vent cover, therefore letting it open when the fan is on. I used to use the awning hook to open and close the one I had.

A photo of your vent showing the tabs in question would be helpful.
IF your vent looks like mine in these photos then you would turn the
left one until it was pointing at 5 on a clock and the right one to 7.
They may be stiff and hard to turn or the vent may be stuck in caulk or just
catching on the tab even after you turn it.
See the middle photo here- note you don't raise up the outside cover.
These photo's are a how to fix your broken vent but the center one shows the
tabs in the "released ready to open" position.

Ours were a pita to get open, don't think they rotate, once I got it open, I left it open. Doesn't cause any problem as it is well shielded from the air currents.

The new vent covers are a pain. On mine, one tab releases easily, the other I need to gently pry open with a screwdriver. The old vent covers with the side tabs were much better.

The new vent covers don't look like the one you pictured. I can't find a picture of the new ones to post. The tabs are built into the flap cover and are very hard to release.

exactly as Fonzie says; and when closing, simply push the vent cover shut until the two tabs snap to lock.

I can push the tabs up as far as they will go on mine, and they still won't release. I have to push them up, and then use a screwdriver to pry them open.

That seems a little tight. I can pull mine open with the two fingers used to push up the tabs.

Not a user friendly design, IMO.

At some point I'm gonna get the Dremel out and do some trimming to ease it up. Of course....I'll probably go to far and the thing will never latch again.

If all else fails...that's what duct tape is for! LOL

Unhappy

Fonzie is correct...but it is not an easy task. The first time we used it I had to get my boy to try it but he still could not get the tabs to pop loose. So the screwdriver method was used..with a few dinks on the plastic. At lease we saw how it worked. So we closed the vent and did not use it for a couple trips. Then this last weekend we had to cook inside due to wind and rain at Chatfield State Park in Co. Once again we had to use the screwdriver method. But this time both the tabs broke off. So before closing I spayed some lube on both. We still had a tuff time closing the vent. Without the tabs it was a real booger to close. But they both finally popped into their cradles. Just can't wait to see what happens next time I need to open them. Our 20yr old Carriage Cashey had the tabs that swiveled on a rivet. These were a breeze to use.

Maybe FR will come up with a more user friendly vent.

We have a vent as in Fonzie's picture, unused for a year because we did not know how to open it. What is useful to know is that when you push the tabs up, they don't slide. Instead they lift a small distance enough to lift them off their locked position, allowing the vent cover (to which the tabs are attached) to open outwards. You can unlock one tab at a time: push up tab and at the same time apply a small force outward to unhook the tab from its seat.
Thanks Fonzie.

A little pry bar does wonders.

Then duct tape to keep it closed.

On a more serious note; I had to put a little monash on it when I opened mine for the first time and decided that I would only open it when we had to use the stove. Maybe once a year!
