This is what I have done to all my outside screws

All the white screws that are used outside the trailers dont stay in good shape for very long. Within a few months they start to loose their shine, the white paint is becoming flaky and the rust start to show up. I went to my hardware store and bought a box of stainless steel screws to replace all of them. At the replacement I made sure that all the screws were all sealed in their treads and I dont have to look at rusty screws anymore.

What did you use for a sealer? What is Dicor - not sure I spelled that right - is it just a silicone chalk? I saw it mentioned for use as a seal on roof vents as I recall.

Dicor has no silicone. Silicon caulk should not be used on the camper since nothing will stick to it and it has a tendency to crack after a while in the sun. Once you use it; getting rid of it is a real chore.

Dicor is a self leveling sealant and is the only "caulk" like sealant you should be using on your camper. It is available at any RV store.

Lap Sealant White 10.3 oz.#

I believe I can get DICOR lap sealant ...........
I work for a roofing company that installs epdm roofs
I will check into it maybe I can get a better price than what the rv outlets sell it for !

I taped all my roof seams with Eternabond tape, but still keep a tube and "caulking" gun in the tool box. I walk the roof every trip and I still find a spot that could use a dab of Dicor occasionally.

Did you get regualr wood screws or the self tapping sheet metal screws? How many did you end up using?

Pretty much everything up there. Here are some photos.

I used the 6 inch wide stuff to do the front and rear seams.

I keep a tub of plumber putty to use on any screws I replace on the walls of the TT. Work great for me. Easier to remove the silicone and does not harden up like some types of caulking.

Lou - I bet that really extends the life of the Dicor. Dicor is good stuff but like anything up there it degrades from the elements, especilly from UV.

Have you done that since day one? Curiois if it's reduce dicor maintenance.

No, but I wish I had though.

It was year two that I did it; right after it came back from the dealer from a full roof cleaning; seam reseal; and UV treatment.

What maintenance?

Seriously, I am up there about every 2 months just checking on stuff. I have not had to crack my emergency tube of sealant yet. I did hit a tree branch that poked a hole in the edge of my roof material, but a piece of scrap EB and a spritz of primer fixed the tear permanently.

DId you use a cleaning agent before placing the Eternabond, or just wash it well?

I might do that on my shower sky light and around the AC.

I used the spray primer made for the EB tape. It is basically spray Acetone and many have just wiped the Dicor sealant and roof material with an acetone soaked rag. (Use chemical grade rubber gloves and try not to breath the fumes).

The AC uses a 3/4 inch foam gasket to seal to the roof and can not be Eternabond sealed. If the AC unit is properly mounted to the roof, it will not leak.

You can also use 3M 5200. It's a marine sealant I have used it on many boats. You can get it at most paint supply stores I have even seen it at home depot. There is clear and white. There is also a quick set I think is 4200. It's great stuff and stick to almost anything.

Use acetone as a cleaning agent after you have done a prewash. I became lazy toward the end of my eternabond application and areas that I didn't clean appropriately resulted in poor adherence of eb to camper roof. Lesson learned and conveyed.
