Washing roof

What is recommended for cleaning your roof. I purchased back in June 5th, 2016. I have detailed everything else but not the roof. What is the recomendation. & if you say soap and water what do you seal with as far as your UV rating?

Lots of threads on cleaning roof, but many people use dawn to clean and Aerospace 303 to treat. You can also buy commercial cleaners at any RV dealer/store.

Cleaning Roof Found This

Ok, I got up this morning to wash roof of camper. The weather is in my favor today. Suppose to be 70 degrees. When its around 50 or better I'm happy. I followed instruction with mild soap and water followed by rinsing. I found these and wanted to know is this normal. Here are four pictures. Now remember I bought this back in June 2016. So give me your opinion.

To me that's not normal. The mildew line is too straight for too long. I've had 3 fifth wheels now, and while my tops were pretty dirty because of the trees I've never seen a straight line like this after washing. It almost seems to be like moisture under there that feeds the mildew, or maybe there's a ridge that holds the dirt in like that. Weird. But I also see it over every roof rafter.

I'm going with Dawn, and maybe a sealant. I've researched recommended cleaners, and all point to dawn as the most effective yet gentle products out there. For lots and lots of different uses. Not any other is mentioned. As far as sealant for the roof material I wonder how effective that is overall. I've not been overly impressed by the cleaners from the rv store, especially for the price.

Washing roof

Looks to me those lines are the seams where the roof panel come together. Probably just a slight dip where your big brush did not get to. Try some dawn and a smaller brush. Or toothbrush and see if it comes off. Almost looks like they are 4ft apart.

Forrest River

I sent Forrest River an email this morning to see how they respond. I could understand spotting but every four foot there is a straight line and then on the front at the head there is a perfect 12 line all the way across. Something's going on here.

The interior layer of a rubber roof is black. What you could be seeing is the outer white ( surface) layer is gone exposing the interior black layer which appears to be crumbling. If so that is not normal for a new or good condition roof. I would expect to see that on an old worn out rubber roof that was ignored. I would definitely get that to the dealer.

This product works for me. Follow up with the treatment solution made by the same company. I used to use Dawn, but noticed roof was becoming dingy after several years. This product made the roof look like new! Easy to use also with no chemicals to run down the side of your rig leaving streaks.
