My water heater cover came open on my last outing and I lost the mesh that covers the vent. Just how important is that mesh piece and can I get a replacement for it without buying the whole door?

I found it by Goggleing " RV water heater door screen" and it was one of the sites to show up. I then went to the site and didn't find it on the site, so just Goggle it.

The mesh

The mesh is intended to keep fingers and bugs out
