xlr thunderbolt 35x12,water in front cap
Has anyone else had this problem. I bought this 5th wheel new in jan. 2012. I started noticing rust and water on the plastic cover for 5th wheel hitch. After investigating the problem, and removing the trim along the bottom and finding there is no seal where cap meets body except for the trim. I continued to troubleshoot the problem and am coming to the conclusion that up at the top, where the gutter meets the cap,if water can get in behind the gutter which it could because the caulk that was there was cracked in a few spots, would then allow water behind gutter, and then behind the caulk and the trim, and then into the front cap. You would think there would be some kind of seal where cap meets body, and some sort of seal behind the gutter,to prevent this from happening. They are putting a lot of faith on that little bead of sealant along the top of the gutter. Also the trim was open where it started at the top, so water could get inside trim and channel down it.The local dealer has since told me that is common for that trim, but added no solution to fix it. I have since resealed along top of gutters, and am trying to decide if I should remove all the trim and seal the cap. The rig has partial paint on it,so it will be extremely hard to do without needing new paint on the trim. Anyone else having this much fun?
